Your water is harder than you think.

Limescale, chlorine and sediment don't just fur up your kettle — they can leave your skin feeling tight and dry, your hair dull, and your shower weaker than it should be. Most people blame their skincare. Often, it's the water.

Purl fixes it at the source. A built-in filter cartridge treats the water as it flows, while the pressure-boosting design turns a weak trickle into a strong, satisfying spray — even in a low-pressure flat.

Why you'll love it:

4 spray modes — pulse, mixed, power boost, rain and fine mist. Swipe to switch.

Replaceable filter — reduces sediment and impurities for a cleaner-feeling shower. Swaps out in seconds.

⚡ Pressure boost — stronger, fuller flow while using less water.

⏸️ One-touch stop — pause the water mid-shower without losing your temperature.

Fits most standard UK hoses — screws on in about 60 seconds. No tools, no plumber.

What's in the box: 1× Purl filtered shower head · 1× replaceable filter cartridge · fits most standard UK fittings.

Softer-feeling skin. Better shower. Proper pressure. From the very first wash.

Free UK delivery · 30-day returns · replaceable filters available.

Water falling from a shower in a bright bathroom
Hard water, hard truth

Why filter your shower water?

If your kettle furs up with limescale, that's the same water hitting your skin and hair every day. Hard water carries chlorine, fine sediment and loose scale from ageing pipes.

Skin that feels tight

Hard water can strip the skin's natural oils, leaving it feeling dry and tight after every shower.

Hair that feels dull

Chlorine and mineral deposits can build up on hair, leaving it feeling rough, dull and harder to manage.

Limescale everywhere

The same scale that furs up your kettle coats your shower screen, your tiles — and your shower head's spray holes.

Inside the handle

What the filter targets

The replaceable cartridge treats water on its way through the handle.

Chlorine taste & odour

The swimming-pool smell — the activated carbon layer reduces it.

Rust particles

Flakes from old pipes, caught before they reach you.

Fine sediment

Sand and grit the water picks up on the way to your bathroom.

Loose limescale

Scale that breaks off inside pipes and ends up in the flow.

Cloudy water

The fine particles that make water look murky.

Blocked spray holes

Filtering debris keeps the nozzles clear, so the pressure boost keeps working.

A shower filter reduces common impurities in the water you shower in — it is not a drinking-water purifier.

How it works

What's inside the handle

Three simple layers between the pipe and your skin.

Activated carbon filter granules

1. Activated carbon layer

  • Reduces chlorine taste and odour
  • The same material used in drinking-water jug filters
  • Swaps out in seconds — no tools

Good to know

Carbon works by adsorption: impurities stick to its huge internal surface area as water passes through.

White PP cotton filter fibre weave

2. PP cotton sediment layer

  • Traps rust, sand and fine sediment
  • Protects the carbon layer so it lasts longer
  • Visibly darkens as it works — proof of what it's catching

Good to know

When the cartridge turns grey-brown, that's the filter doing its job. Swap it every 2–3 months.

3. Pressure-boost outlet

  • Micro-perforated plate concentrates the flow
  • Makes weak showers feel noticeably stronger
  • Five spray patterns from the same head

Honest note

It doesn't change your home's mains pressure — it makes better use of the flow you already have.

Questions, answered

Will it fit my shower?

It fits most standard UK shower hoses (½ inch / 15 mm thread), which is the common fitting on mixer and electric showers. It takes about 60 seconds to fit by hand — no tools and no plumber.

How often does the filter need replacing?

Replace the carbon cartridge roughly every 2–3 months depending on your water hardness and how often you shower. Refills are available on this site.

Does it really boost pressure?

The head concentrates flow through a narrower outlet area, which makes the spray feel noticeably stronger — particularly on low-pressure systems. It does not change your home's actual mains water pressure.

What does the filter actually do?

The carbon cartridge is designed to reduce chlorine taste and odour and to catch sediment from hard water. It is a shower filter, not a drinking-water purifier.
